"New-Method" No. 15
We introduce the email bulletin "New-Method" No. 15 with our works and
guest contributions. This issue features Tsubasa Tanaka for the
contributor for the second contribution, who has contributed for this
bulletin No. 8. We asked him for the contribution about "Second
New-Methodicist Manifesto" this time.

[Contribution]
A New Usage of Tautology
Tsubasa Tanaka (the Contributor for "New-Method" No. 15)
The manifesto of New-Method seems absent of the contents at all.
Remarkably the second manifesto is composed of the tautology "A is A"
alone, uncompromising in its pursuit of nonsense. Daily
conversations or literary expressions normally contain somewhat
implication, of which however I could not even sense a clue at
all. How come they dare to declare such a manifesto?
In the manifesto of Old-Methodicism, indulgence was subject to
criticism as the negative aspect of freedom, and "stoicism and
discipline" were advocated to commit themselves to the tautology
(nonsense). Their obsession appeared even dogmatic, but
New-Method does not give such an impression at all and rather even
appears enjoying the freedom that had been the enemy for
Old-Methodicism (see their work "Sea Bathing").
Thus I made a hypothesis that New-Methodicism is "a non-dogmatic
movement to affirm freedom" as an alternative development of the same
theme "freedom" as Old-Methodicism had held. Then it must be
included in the manifesto as a matter of course. However, things
like freedom or non-dogmatism must contradict the binding of the
manifesto in reality. That is, once one claims to be free, then
the binding "one must be free" emerges, while once one claims to be
non-dogmatic, then the dogma "one must refuse the dogma" emerges, which
in any case leads self-contradiction and ends up with a setback.
Then one comes to work out prescription for this paradox. Can we
interpret the tautology as this prescription? That is to say, the
nonsense resulting from the tautology makes it possible to realize the
freedom without the binding of the manifesto and to constitute an "ism"
without the dogma.

These four works share a common XHTML document, each with a different
stylesheet just like previous works. The XHTML document is
written to generate four kinds of 100 identical boxes, that is, 400
boxes in total. The stylesheet is written by inputting every 10
integers from 10 to 250 regularly for 25 numerical values which define
the background and four kinds of boxes. Appearance will change
along with balance between window size and magnification, and with the
language specifications of either Japanese or English.

[Editor's Note]
Happy New Year to you. I wish all of you readers a great new
year. At the end of the year, I ate Tanzanian food for the first
time. Pilau, a rice dish cooked with cinnamon, cardamon, cumin
and other spices is good smell and delicious. If you have an
opportunity, try to eat the Tanzanian food. (Kaido)
